DA, youth judge join students to protest bullying

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile Anti-Bullying Coalition took to the streets of Mobile on Saturday  morning with the message that bullies are not welcome in the city.

Mobile County Judge Edmond Naman and District Attorney Ashley Rich turned up for the event in downtown Mobile. The walk began at 9 a.m.

“What we did today was really a beautiful thing. The first step of really changing the way we treat others in this community,” said Naman, who works in the city’s youth courts.

He said the city was recently named on e of the best places for children to live, not because of where the situation currently stands but, “because of where we’re going.”

Rich’s office recently started their “Bully Blocker” program, which allows students to use text messaging to report instances of bullying to the DA’s office. She said it has to start at home though, because prosecution is not the best way to handle cases of bullying.

“The best thing for a parent to do is to make sure you have good open lines of communication in your family,” Rich said.

To report bullying to the DA’s office, all you have to do is text "bully blocker" to 839863, along with some information.
