Suspect charged with impersonating agent, kidnapping

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile police said they received a call about a vehicle break-in around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 6. When police arrived on scene, however, they said it ended up being something much different.

Investigators said the person police initially thought was breaking into a vehicle turned out to be the victim of a kidnapping.

Authorities said Duane McGhee contacted a male victim while impersonating an FBI agent and explained he needed to speak with the victim about an investigation.

Police said the victim complied and was taken to a hotel. While in the hotel room, police said the victim became suspicious.

“It wasn't until after he (McGhee) began using the drugs and even started undressing himself in the hotel room, that the victim then figured out he wasn't an FBI agent and wanted to leave,” said MPD spokes person Cpl. Chris Levy.

We’re told the victim left the hotel room and started searching through McGhee’s vehicle.

Police arrived on scene when McGee called to report the victim was breaking into his vehicle.

Levy said the victim claims he did not know the suspect, but they believe McGhee knew who the victim was prior to the kidnapping.

Jail records show McGhee is still in jail. In addition to impersonating a peace officer and kidnapping, he also faces two drug charges.
