MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - An Irvington man pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count each of rape and sodomy involving two young children .
Jacob Johansen's trial was set to start February 27, but Johansen pleaded instead.
Assistant District Attorney Nicki Patterson said she asked for the deal so the victims, who were 7 and 9-years-old, would not have to take the stand.
Judge Charles Graddick sentenced Johansen to 10 years for each count. Graddick told Johansen if it had been a blind plea, he wouldn't have ever let him out of jail.
Many of Johansen's family members were present in court and spoke to our cameras. Johansen's mother said her son is innocent.
FOX10 News reporter Chasity Byrd was in court and will have the details from court proceedings on FOX10 News at 4 p.m.
