MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A Mobile County eighth-grader is arrested after putting his hands on a teacher. Mobile Police say the teen was slapped with a charge, while some worry about the school's safety.
Police say the 15-year-old pushed the teacher down, and is charged with disorderly conduct.
Nancy Pierce, the spokeswoman for the Mobile County Public School System, said the student has been suspended. She did not know for how long.
An e-mail tipped off FOX10 News to the violence at Hankins Middle School. The same school where back in March a student was suspended for punching a teacher in the face.
The e-mail said teachers are "concerned for their safety."
"People do not need to be afraid," said Pierce. "Ninety-nine percent of our students want a safe school, and they don't want fighting or other things happening. Most of the times they tell us and we do something about it."
Parent Michelle Partsch said she isn't worried about her daughter attending Hankins.
"This is a really good school. People are involved. My daughter is in the National Honor Society and the band," said Partsch. "One off incident doesn't define a school."
Partsch's daughter said she wants people to know not all the kids here are bad.
"I like it here. They have cool stuff to do. And not all the students here are bad," said Partsch's daughter.
The teacher involved in March attack has not been back to school.
