SARALAND, Ala. (WALA) - A Saraland High School teacher faces a charge of sexual misconduct with a student.
Nathan Blaylock, 29, was arrested at his home after authorities served a search warrant for sexual misconduct. The investigation began Sunday night and Blaylock was behind bars the very next day.
Detective Arlan Gaines said, "The detective went out and found out the allegations were possibly true."
Gaines said a family member of the 17-year-old Saraland High School student found out about the alleged inappropriate actions and called police.
Police say it all began with a game.
The teacher and student were supposedly playing a game on their phones. That turned to chatting, then it escalated to text messaging. Gaines said the messages occurred over a period of about three or four days.
"It was just sexually inappropriate between an adult and a juvenile. Talking about playing beer pong and making suggestions, sexual innuendos if he should win what he should receive from the victim and vice versa," added Gaines.
Police contacted Superintendent Dr. Wayne Vickers regarding the incident who said he began an investigation immediately upon receiving information about it. He said he is taking all appropriate actions under Alabama law.
Vickers said in a statement, "I have received copies of the alleged communications and placed the employee on administrative leave pending the conclusion of my investigation."
According to the school's website , Blaylock teaches science and coaches basketball and cross country.
Police confiscated Blaylock's phone and don't believe he had any similar interaction with other students.
FOX10 tried to get Blaylock's side of the story, but was unable to reach him at his home.
Gaines said, "We just want people to know that the City of Saraland, the police department and school board take this serious. Our main goal is to make sure every child in the school system is safe."
Blaylock was released from Metro Jail on $1,000 bond and is expected back in court April 9.
If found guilty of sexual misconduct, he could face up to a year in jail.
