The pros of Mardi Gras

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Many of you have your Mardi Gras traditions, but those in Bienville Square have it down to a science. Those in the park have to be considered some of the pros of Mardi Gras.

Brielyn Barfield is one of them. She was worried because she said she overslept by a couple of hours.

"We finally got a spot; that's what I was worried about," Barfield said.

Barfield had her spot, a tent set up, her puppy with her. But wait, there's more.

"We have a grill and another cooler coming," Barfield said.

Barfield isn't the only one who has it made in the shade. So do Cassandra Brown and Courtney Goldsmith.

"Relaxing, good times, just mingling and seeing everybody. It's cool," Brown said.

"There's no fighting, arguing, the police are constantly watching, the kids have fun running around and there's five parades," Goldsmith said.

Their five-year tradition is going strong.

Maysie Crocker likes Bienville for another reason.

"Very busy. Hotdogs and food, and these people back there are giving out free food," Crocker said.

Brad Chunn said Bienville is the place to be on Fat Tuesday.

"You've got parades on both sides, a good mix of people, good atmosphere," Chunn said.

He said there's one thing that makes your set-up above the rest.  

"You've got to have a place to do your business, it gets hectic around here," Chunn said.

Food, pets, people, and Port-o-Potties. No wonder those in Bienville Square are called the Mardi Gras pros.
