IRVINGTON, Ala. (WALA) - A flat screen television sat outside a home near Hodge Nursery Road for hours Friday morning, waiting to be dusted for fingerprints. Investigators said the suspect who tried to steal it, broke into the home with children inside.
"There were three juveniles that were home alone who heard someone outside. As they attempted to force their way in they barricaded themselves in a rear bedroom," said Lt. Paul Burch with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect broke in the front door.
"When the suspect was inside, he also attempted to gain entry in the room where they were located," Burch said.
Deputies said that wasn't all the suspect did.
"He attempted to dismantle what he believed was an alarm system but it was the thermostat," Burch said.
The suspect left the home and fled on foot, dropping the television as he ran. Deputies searched the Irvington area throughout the day, along with K-9 units.
Those with the sheriff's office said they do have a person of interest in mind.
