Tunnel to close for maintenance

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Bankhead Tunnel will be closed overnight for three consecutive weekends for maintenance beginning Sept. 7.

The Alabama Department of Transportation said, weather permitting the eastbound and westbound lanes of the tunnel will close for routine maintenance.

The closures will go from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. on these dates:

Motorists must use alternate routes and are urged to drive with caution in the area.
