USA releases name of stabbing victim

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A South Alabama student is charged in the stabbing death of another man early Sunday morning.

Investigators say the suspect, Branden Ajizadeh, frantically called in the crime himself at around 6 a.m.

Students at the University watched in disbelief as police worked the homicide.

"They got it all blocked off. You probably can't even get to your room right now. They got it all blocked off with tape," said Devin Robinson, who lives near the crime scene.

Investigators were focused on room 116 at the Delta 6 residence complex on campus.

They say Ajizadeh fatally stabbed a non-student, identified as 19-year-old James Franklin Dean. Dean was a graduate of Murphy High School.

People who live nearby said they heard and saw nothing. Many said they were shaken up by the crime.

"We just have alot of police and campus security here. I just never thought anything like this could happen," said Akeen Appleton, a student at USA.

USA Police say Ajizadeh confessed to the crime during questioning.

"The person admitted to actually killing and stabbing an individual who was a non student," said Chief Zeke Aull with the USA Police Department.

Officials say they are working on a motive and trying to determine the relationship between the victim and suspect.

All the unanswered questions are troubling many students living on campus.

"It makes me feel kind of unsafe because for something like that to happen and we not know about it, its just scary," said Robinson.

School officials however assured students that there is nothing to worry about.

"There is no ongoing threat to our students. There is nothing that leads me to believe there is an ongoing threat," said Chief Aull.
