MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A man who deputies said was stabbed numerous times during a dispute over a missing dog spoke to FOX10.
John Bliss said his girlfriend’s brother and nephew stabbed him eight times in the back, neck and arms Monday night with a pocket knife.
“It was a no win situation,” said Bliss. “Too many knives were involved. I couldn't fight one of them to keep him off my back without the other getting on my back and stabbing me.”
He said he went to visit his girlfriend in Chunchula, when he claims an argument broke out over a pit bull that went missing weeks ago. That argument deputies said escalated to a violent stabbing.
“Jarman said, ‘Where's the dog? Where's the dog?’ I'm like, ‘What dog? What kind of dog are we talking about?’ Next thing I know he says, ‘You've got my dog,’ and started punching me,” said Bliss. “Within the punching, I didn’t realize I was getting cut.”
Deputies charged Mike Jarman and Irron Weaver, who are related to the girlfriend and live at the residence, with first-degree assault.
Weaver has since posted bail and spoke to FOX10 about the crime. He claims Bliss attempted to run down Jarman during the dispute.
“Bliss came out. He jumped out of the truck and ran around and jumped on my uncle,” said Weaver. “I reached and grabbed him by his shoulder and pulled him off. He just fell on the ground and was bleeding all over.”
Meanwhile Bliss was discharged from USA Medical Center, where officials said he was in critical condition upon arrival.
Witnesses claim Bliss took the dog because it had been acting aggressively toward a child.
