SEMMES, Ala. (WALA) - It was an unsettling situation for a 16-year-old Saturday night when her mother said an unmarked car pulled her daughter over and asked her to get out of the vehicle.

“It’s very scary because as a mother, you’re scared when your child leaves the house no matter what; but for something to happen like that, you always think the worst. If she had gotten out of the car, what would have happened?” said the mother.

The teen was driving back from a friend’s home around 10:30 p.m. when she saw blue lights flashing from the front grill of a white crown victory according to the mother.

She said her daughter pulled into a church parking lot off Wulff Road in Semmes and waited to be approached by the rear vehicle.

“The guy got out of the car, came up to her window and asked her I she knew what she did wrong and she said, ‘Yes sir, I was going 38 in a 35,” said the mother.

She was told the man was not wearing a uniform and never asked for her daughter’s identification.

“She asked, ‘Do you need this?’ And he kind of got aggravated with her, and that's when she questioned his authority. And then he told her to get out of the car so he could talk to her,” the mother said.

The teen told the man she didn’t feel comfortable and asked for another deputy to be called to the scene according to the mother.

After some debate, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office said the man let the teen go but told her: “I’ll get you next time.”

MCSO officials said they are working on the case.

They advise anyone who feels unsafe when being pulled over to turn on the emergency lights in their vehicle and call 911 to notify dispatchers of the situation.
