MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - One man died in a pile-up at the Wallace Tunnel entrance early Saturday morning.

Police said the accident occurred around 12 a.m. on Dec. 29 at the eastbound I-10 tunnel entrance. Traffic investigators said five dump trucks, one SUV, one pick-up truck and one motorcycle were involved in the crash.

The driver of the motorcycle, identified as 32-year-old Joseph Salas, was pronounced dead at the scene and four of the SUV’s passengers were transported to Mobile Infirmary with non-life threatening injuries.

Police closed the tunnel entrance for several hours in the early morning as hazardous materials teams responded to clean up an unknown amount of fuel.

Mobile Police Traffic Investigators will continue investigating this crash.
