PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Prichard police said 21-year old Orland Pratt was shot Saturday night on North Wasson Avenue, but they don’t know who shot the man or why.

Witnesses said a red car with two black males drove up beside the victim and shot him for no known reason.

Zenovia Reese said it happened across from her house.

“I was in bed and the only thing I heard was three shots. Just three shots sound off, 'Bang, bang, bang,' and that was it,” Reese said

Reese said next, she heard knocking on her door from the victim’s brother.

“He was hollering 'My brother has been shot. Somebody help me; somebody help me.’ He was lying out there in the street and that was it,” Reese said.

She said her son in-law went to help the men and wait for police.

“The one that was shot was lying down, and his brother was over him crying,” Reese said. “My son-in-law told the man to lay still. If you have to move him, you could have done more damage. So he said just lay there until the ambulance comes.”

Reese said after half an hour, Prichard police and the fire department responded to the scene.

Witnesses said Pratt was on foot when he was shot.

"I feel like everywhere you go, something occurs and anywhere you go, you’re not safe,” said Reese.

Police said Pratt was taken to USA Medical Center where he died after an emergency operation.

Family members said Pratt loved to play basketball and always had a smile on his face.

Anyone with any information regarding this shooting is asked to call the Prichard Police Department at 452-2211.
