Some work on Christmas Day

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - It's Christmas Day, and for many of you that means a day off from work for resting and relaxation, for others it's just another day of work.

FOX10 News went looking for people working and playing on the holiday, here’s who we found:       

Christmas morning for some of you is about opening presents.

“My brother surprised me with an Xbox 360,” said Matt Fleming of Mobile, waiting to see Les Miserables at the Hollywood Theatre in Mobile.

“I got an iPad,” said Dr. Patrick Hubka, working at the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Mobile.

Gifts can be bought at a store, but they also come from the heart.

“I have four miniature dachshunds so my mom made me a pillow case with their names and pictures on it,” said Kenny Williams of Mobile.

“I'm going to go see my son, baby-momma and her family up in Fort Meyers, Florida,” said Quintan Austin of Santa Ana, California.  

So after the gifts are opened, what is one to do? Some of you seek entertainment:

“We did Christmas at 6 O' Clock this morning, so nothing else to do so we came to the movies,” said Matt Fleming of Mobile. 

For others, it's off to work to help those in need.

“We're here 24/7 so that's our commitment to the Mobile area service their pets and be here for every need that they have. There are some sacrifices, but it's worth it to help the animals out,” said Dr. Patrick Hubka DVM at the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Mobile.

Doctor Hubka said pets eating things that are poisonous to them, like chocolate, is a common emergency they deal with during the holidays.   

And still for a few of you, Christmas hasn't even begun.

“This Christmas I wanted it to be the best Christmas, but I missed it by one day,” said Quintan Austin of Santa Ana, California.

Austin traveled by bus from Southern California to Mobile in order to surprise his girlfriend and son, but they were gone, off to Fort Meyers, Florida to visit family.

So Austin must now take another bus to see them, but he won't arrive until tomorrow.

“Soon as I see them, I'm going to kidnap him from my baby-momma for five minutes. And then as soon as my son falls asleep, I'm going to go ahead take my baby-momma out and just try to get reacquainted and show her what Christmas is about,” said Austin.
