World Tai Chi day flows through Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) -  

Positive energy flowed that the Via Center on Dauphin Street as Mobilians took part in a worldwide event Saturday.

World Tai Chi Day kicked off at 10 a.m. in 70 countries around the world. The annual event is intended to spread awareness about the benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong. 

Tai Chi and Qigong originated in eastern cultures centuries ago, and as has spread to west along with its many health benefits for young and old.

About two dozen people lead by Tai Chi instructor Marty Burrow performed various routines including open hand, sword form, fan form and cane form.

Burrow teaches Tai Chi classes at the Via Center on Mondays and Wednesdays.
