MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile Police Department is mourning the loss of Officer Steven Green. Police say the 36-year-old officer was stabbed by a robbery suspect Friday afternoon.

Officer Green was headed to booking with 24-year-old Lawrence Wallace, Jr. at Mobile Metro Jail shortly before 4 p.m. Police say Wallace stabbed Officer Green in the neck, grabbed his gun and took off in his patrol car.

With officers in pursuit, Wallace sped down Dauphin Island Parkway. He eventually abandoned the patrol car, and hid under a house on Daytona Drive. Police say for about two hours they exchanged gunfire with Wallace.

Officer Mark Johnson was wounded during the standoff.

At 6:30 p.m., the standoff was over, and Wallace was killed.

Officer Steven Green joined the Mobile County Police Department in May 2010. He started his training with the 1st precinct in October 2010 and two months later, he joined the 5th precinct.

Officer Green was married with three children: a three-year-old, an eight-year-old, and a sixteen-year-old. Green's mother lives in Huntsville.

Saturday morning, Officer Green's wife spoke with his brothers in blue during roll call.

Randy Funeral Home helped to make funeral arrangements for Officer Green. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Dauphin Street Tuesday from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. The service will be held Wednesday at the Sunlight District Auditorium (809 Seminary Street, Prichard) at 11 a.m.
