MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - As Mobile police continue to cope with the tense events of this past Friday, they were called to another standoff Sunday.

It was a frightening ordeal for Barbara Darby, who said her daughter was being held hostage.

"She said Daddy, and the phone hung up and that was unusual for her," Darby said.

Darby said a phone call from her daughter Sunday morning set her nerves on edge. She felt something was wrong.

"I said, 'Go check on my baby, go check on her.' He left to go check on her, and he called me back and he said, 'Baby, the house surrounded,'" Darby said.

Mobile Police had blocked off Calhoun Street. Darby said her daughter was being held hostage in her home by her boyfriend.

"He had her in there, she couldn't come out. She begged me, 'Please mama come get me, please mama.' I said, 'Mama can't come up in there,' and she was like, 'Please, I'm scared, I'm scared I can't get out,'" she said.

It was also a tense period for others in the neighborhood.

"At first we didn't know if that was a what was going on, but then they said he had the girl hostage, you know.," Orlando Johnson said.

The deadly standoff and killing of a Mobile police officer Friday was still fresh on Johnson's mind when he saw the commotion on his street Sunday morning.

"I done seen so much around here in the last six months, I'm just kinda scared to come out the house," he said.

Thankfully this time the drama ended peacefully when the suspect came out of the house with his hands in the air.

Neighbors and Darby were all relieved.

"He let her go. He had her hostage. He let her go, and that's a very beautiful experience," she said.

We are waiting on details from Mobile police, including the name of the suspect.
