EGLIN AFB, Fla. (WALA) - Eglin Air Force Base officials said the cause of the accident that killed an airman during a training exercise is currently under investigation.

Major Garrett Knowlan died while participating in survival, evasion, resistance and escape training at the Pensacola Naval Air Station on Oct. 11.

The four-day training course instructs airmen on how to survive should they be stranded in the water following an accident.

Garrett, 32, was a native of Cape Girardeau, Mo., a husband and a father of two boys.

Officials said Knowlan was the executive officer for Brig. General David Harris, 96th Test Wing commander. He was a 2002 graduate of the Air force Academy in Colorado and a 2010 graduate of the USAF Test Pilot school.
