US 98 lanes to close for road work

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) - Florida Department of Transportation announced lane closures for a several areas along US Highway 98 in Okaloosa County for Thursday.

Drivers on U.S. 98 will encounter the following lane closures near Hurlburt Field on Thursday January 31, officials said:

  • The right travel lane of U.S. 98 eastbound, between Fallin Waters Drive and the Hurlburt Field pedestrian overpass (6 p.m. to 7 p.m.).
  • The U.S. 98 eastbound inside left turn lane to Cody Avenue northbound (7 p.m. to 8 p.m.).
  • The inside northbound travel lane of Cody Avenue entering Hurlburt Field and the outside southbound right turn lane leaving the base (7 p.m. to 8 p.m.).
  • The outside right turn lane of U.S. 98 westbound to Champaign Street along with the outside travel lane of Champaign Street southbound (8 p.m. to 9 p.m.).
  • The outside travel lane of Champaign Street northbound, between the security gate and the U.S. 98 intersection (8 p.m. to 9 p.m.).

Construction crews will be taking pavement samples during the lane closures.  Access to Hurlburt Field will be maintained at all times.

The planned activities are weather dependent and may be delayed or re-scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
