OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) - Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies say a Crestview man faces several charges, including aggravated battery on a police officer, after hitting a deputy with his vehicle.

It started when the deputy responded to a call of a possible drunk driver. When the deputy got to the scene, he found 21-year-old Jordan Hayslip parked almost entirely in someone's yard.

The deputy said he approached Hayslip, which refused to look or speak to him. He said Hayslip then made a hard left turn while accelerating, hitting him and speeding off.

The deputy wasn't injured and was able to get into his patrol car to try to stop Hayslip.

After a brief chase, Hayslip lost control of his truck and hit a power pole. He had to be physically removed from the truck. The deputy said he smelled strongly of alcohol and a can of cold beer was found in the truck.

Hayslip was arrested and charged with DUI, aggravated battery on a police officer, fleeing police, resisting arrest, and driving with a suspended license.
