DESTIN, Fla. (WALA) - A sergeant with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is suspended without pay after an incident Thursday night in Destin. Sgt. Ted Cason is accused of driving his motorcycle under the influence.
Deputies say they were called to an area of Highway 98 near 314 Harbor Boulevard just before 10 p.m. for a motorcycle crash.
Citizens told deputies they found Sgt. Cason lying on the ground near the motorcycle.
A sergeant investigating the accident noted Cason had a moderate smell of alcohol on his breath, his eyes appeared watery, and he was unsteady on his feet. Sgt. Cason reportedly refused a field sobriety test or alcohol breath test.
Deputies report Sgt. Cason also had blood on his forehead, but declined medical attention.
Sgt. Cason is charged with driving under the influence. He has been suspended without pay pending the results of an internal investigation.
