BAKER, Fla. (WALA) - Two people were killed in a traffic accident in Baker after a car drifted into oncoming traffic Saturday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Charlotte Black’s Chevy Suburban drifted into the northbound lane of State Road 4 and struck John St. John head on.

St. John and Racine Ison, who was riding with Black, were both killed in the collision. Black, of Olive Hill, Ky. was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola with critical injuries.

St. John’s vehicle overturned and settled in a ditch on the side of the road while Black’s came to rest in the middle of the road; both vehicles were totaled. Venia Groves, who was driving behind St. Johns, tried to avoid hitting it by swerving but was unable to do so.

The other passengers in Black’s vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The investigation is still ongoing, and highway patrol says charges are pending.
