Woman saved from drowning in Destin

DESTIN, Fla. (WALA) - A 48-year-old woman had to be pulled from the water in Destin by rescue personnel after she nearly drowned.

Paramedics with the Destin Fire Department say they found the woman in distress in the water behind a restaurant around 2:30 Saturday afternoon.

Officials said red flags were flying along the beaches at the time.

Authorities said the victim was unconscious when she was pulled from the water, but came to when she as she was put into a medical helicopter. She was flown to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola for treatment.

Her name has not been released.
