PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - This weekend, an angler went after a quarry most people don't want any part of: a shark.
Fisherman Tyler Kennedy found one too. He reeled in a tiger shark weighing in at more than 940-pounds.
Kennedy was fishing in the Outcast Mega Shark Tournament in Pensacola aboard the the 'Wendy Sea'.
He hooked the shark about 20 miles south of Orange Beach. Kennedy said it took more than two hours to reel the shark in. He said after one attempt to get the nearly half-ton fish in the boat, the crew ended up tying it to the side of the vessel for the ride inshore.
Kennedy, a longtime angler, says it’s the biggest fish he's ever caught. He was declared the winner of the tournament.
FOX10 New Reporter Chasity Byrd spoke to Kennedy. You can see that and the monster shark on FOX10 News at 4 p.m.
