Robbery suspect left face uncovered

PENSACOLA, Fla (WALA) - Dozens of folks go in and out of the Murphy's Gas Station at the corner of Navy Boulevard and Highway 98 daily.

However, around 2 a. m. on Friday, Escambia County Sheriff's Deputies said a man went in to take cash instead.

"The clerk said a black male came into the store and asked for directions. The man then left the store. And when he came back in, he said that he had some big friends outside. He said that he was a member of a gang, and the clerk needed to give him all the money out of the register," said Deputy Matthew Baxter with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.

Baxter said surveillance video was rolling on the suspect the entire time, and he never once covered his face.

Authorities said they don't know how much money the suspect managed to get; but once he got it, he took off out of the store.

That's when they said he got into a red, two-toned vehicle that was waiting for him in the parking lot.

Deputies said he left in that car, and now they're just trying to identify him

Alan Zito and Cody Burdette live nearby.

They said they've seen an increase of crime in the area but never at this gas station.

"I'm pretty surprised they robbed Murphy's," Zito said.

"It's a kind of a nice store, and there's a lot of people that come around. I'm surprised they didn't get caught," Burdette said.

George Cox said he's shocked the robber just walked in without trying to hide his identity.

"I've never seen anything like that before. That's brave, but a bad thing to do. It's against the law to rob," Cox said.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office plans to release the surveillance footage soon.

If you have any information on this crime, contact the Escambia County Sheriff's Office or Gulf Coast Crime Stoppers.
