ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) - Escambia County Sheriff’s Office say two people were shot and killed after one of them robbed a convenience store near the intersection of Pace Boulevard and Godfrey Street.
According to reports, an unidentified black male entered the store just after 5 p.m. and robbed the store clerk at gunpoint.
Officials say at some point the clerk retrieved a gun and fired at the suspect, striking him. Investigators say the suspect fired as well, striking the clerk.
The clerk was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the suspect fled on foot a short distance before collapsing. They tell us the suspect was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
At this time, investigators are on scene and looking at evidence and talking to witnesses.
Officials say the identity of the clerk and the suspect will be released after family members are notified.
The sheriff’s office says no additional information is available at this time.
