PENSACOLA, Fla. - It was a symbolic homecoming. Returning home on the Fourth of July after spending the last 3 to 6 months in Iraq. Fort Walton Beach Mayor Mike Anderson told us, " I think it adds more meaning to the day. Because this is independence day and these guys have been fighting for independence."

After pouring of the plane at Hurlbert field, the 166 troops headed straight into the arms of their loved ones. While hugging his kids, Master Sargent Michael K. Sullivan said he is, " Excited to be home. Excited to see the kids. Excited to see my my wife. They did real good while I was gone. They've all grown up a lot and they're absolutely adorable and beautiful."

After hugging his mom, Airman Shawn McGurk said, " I fell pretty good I'm happy to be back. I'm excited."

A LONG WAIT

For those waiting in the States, the date of the return isn't important. What matters is greeting the troops with hugs and kisses. Waiting on her husband, Heather Cole said, " I've been waiting for this... feels like forever."

After hugging her son, Gail Howe said, " There's no words to describe how I feel right now to have my son safe back home in the United States of America."

A special feeling on the most American of days.
