PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) -

Locals have been checking out Pensacola's brand new multi-million dollar library since its grand opening on Jan.11.

The new Pensacola Library cost around $7.7 million and was under renovation for months.

Mayor Ashton Hayward and other local dignitaries came together for the grand opening which included a ribbon cutting and a dedication of a memorial to fallen Pensacola firefighter Maurice Bartholemew.

The library also invited the public to come out on Saturday, January 10 for a Family Fun Day, featuring vendors, crafts, dancing, music and kid's activities.

The 51,000 sq. ft. facility features an area for children, around 50 public computers, community meeting rooms and a bookstore. The library also hopes to soon have a coffee shop.

The library is also the first City facility to gain LEED certification for its energy saving ability.

The project was funded through $6 million in local option sales tax, as well as a $606,500 U.S. Department of Energy grant and other local contributions.

FOX10 News Reporter Cory Pippin got a first-hand look at the library today. He'll have more coming up at 9 p.m.
