PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Most will agree what makes Community Maritime Park so special is its atmosphere. Chiseled out of a patch of land right on the Pensacola Bay, one would be hard-pressed to find a better place to enjoy some of America's pastime.
But even a proud, brand-new ballpark- which has become a staple in the community- can be humbled by a special guest.
Northwest Florida native, and Masters champion, Bubba Watson stopped by to throw out the first pitch Friday night at the Blue Wahoos game.
Maritime Park, and the guests in green who filled her, weren't the only ones humbled. Bubba had a message for the more than 5,000 in attendance.
"I meant it when I said this is all for all of them," Watson said. "There is a lot of golf courses, and a lot of people that were instrumental in my growing up and getting better at the game of golf, and they were all part of that, and all my tears and everything are always for them, and showing my love to Pensacola and Milton and Bagdad."
Bubba can now "do whatever he wants" as he joked, in a large part of northwest Florida, after being given the keys to the city for Milton and Pensacola.
The gifts tugged at the PGA pro's emotions, as he learned to play the sport he's mastered right in Maritime Park's backyard.
They're touching gifts, but ones that pale in comparison to his most recent blessing, his newborn adopted son Caleb.
FOX10 News asked Watson which feels better, being a Masters Champion or a father.
"Being a father," Watson said. "Being a father is just, it's a blessing, especially with us having to go through the adoption. The adoption process is not easy. It's just a blast to have a young one that we're changing diapers, feeding, and caring for. The Masters jacket is nice, it's going to hopefully teach my kid how to play golf, and I'll have some videos to show him, but having the kid is just a blessing."
