PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - A Pensacola man received minor injuries but his car was declared a total loss after the vehicle ran off the road and over a cliff early Friday morning, September 14.

Donald Watzka, 42, told officers he left work and was northbound on Scenic Highway around 1:30 a.m. when another vehicle hit his car on the right-hand rear corner and kept going.

Watzka, who was wearing a seatbelt, said his 2006 Volkswagen Jetta then ran off the road in the 2200 block of Scenic Highway and struck a tree before it traveled about 25 yards down the cliff and stopped.

Watzka, who received minor injuries and refused medical treatment, said it took him about five hours to climb the cliff. Around 8:30 a.m. Watzka flagged down a passing motorist who gave him a ride to his place of employment where he called police.

Officials say the crash remains under investigation.
