Car hits pole and buildings, driver flees

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) -

Farouk Borghul has been running his barbershop for nearly a year in a building rented to him by Kenneth Lever.

Now, they're busy cleaning up after a car plowed through it.

“There was trash from one end of the parking lot to the other. It looks more like a tornado or something to me. This is pretty bad,” said Lever.

Authorities said a Nissan 350Z was driving down Creighton Road around 3 a. m.

It left the road, struck a utility pole and went flying through the front window of Farouk’s Barbershop

Authorities said after plowing through the barbershop, the car went through a fence and stopped in a yard next door.

One of the car's tires was thrown through the front door of an alterations shop next door.

Authorities said that's when the driver fled the scene.

“You kind of want to be mad at them. But you also want to think, ‘I hope they’re OK.’ That’s the right attitude. However, you can’t help but think this was a mistake. Somebody did something stupid,” Lever said.

Farouk Borghul said he thought of his family.

“The first thing in my mind was that I left my wife and my daughters at home, and they're safe. No one got hurt. I thought about what worse could have happened,” said Borghul.

He said he could be out of business for at least a week because of this, but he’s trying to stay positive.

“I thought someone drove through my barbershop, so they were looking for a drive through haircut. I've got to put that as a business improvement. Maybe I'll be the first barbershop to do that, you never know," Borghul said.

The Florida Highway Patrol is still looking for the driver of the silver 350Z. If you have any information, contact authorities at 850-484-5000.
