CENTURY, Fla. (WALA) - The town of Century is rallying around a pregnant widow of a firefighter who lost his life in a car accident.
Months after his death, family and friends of firefighter Lieutenant Nathan Berry came together to celebrate the child he and his wife Tiffany were expecting together before the man died in a car accident.
The Century Fire Department he served, as well as the community he helped to protect, showed them that they’re not alone with Saturday’s baby shower.
“It’s our way of bringing family members together with the community because we’ve lost a family member. Obviously, it’s had a profound impact on all of us. Anytime you lose a friend and a brother, it’s a big impact. He is missed quite a bit,” said Asst. Chief David Adams with the Century Fire Department.
Nathan Berry was killed in a car accident while he was off-duty in June. Berry’s death left behind his wife, their 17-month-old daughter Anna Claire, and Mason, their yet unborn son.
Friends say Berry spent five years as a firefighter, as well as some time as a paramedic.
Theresa Hanks, Tiffany Berry's mother, says Nathan Berry’s dedication to his family was unmatched.
“We’re excited for the baby to be here, but it’s very bittersweet because Nathan’s not going to get to hold him. He was a great family man. He was a good son, a good brother and a great uncle. He was just a good man," Hanks said.
Tiffany Berry says the help they've received from the community has meant the world to them.
“I’m very grateful and thankful for what the community has done. They’ve come together and they’ve been a big help. They've been a big blessing,” said Tiffany Berry.
If you're interested in donating anything for the Berry's children, you can contact the family at (850) 619-0729.
