ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) - If you're traveling through Escambia County, Fla., be sure to buckle up. The annual holiday crackdown "Click it or Ticket" is underway.
Deputies will be cracking down on motorists who fail to wear their seat belts – both day and night. This is an effort to increase seat belt use and decrease motor vehicle fatalities across the county.
Seatbelt non-usage is a primary violation and motorists should bear in mind that they may be stopped for not buckling up.
The targeted effort will run through November 25, 2012.
High-visibility enforcement such as the Click It or Ticket mobilization are credited with increasing the national belt usage rate from 58 percent in 1994 to an observed usage rate of 84 percent in 2011. Belt use saves thousands of lives across America each year. In 2010 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 12,546 lives nationwide.
