ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WALA) - An Escambia County Commissioner rallied his fellow board members to push a resolution through in support of the second amendment, February 21.
District One Commissioner Wilson Robertson introduced the motion.
“I’m solely and totally in for protecting the second amendment, and our gun rights," Robertson said. "Back in 1994, one of our commissioners asked the board to pass a resolution supporting the second amendment, and they did. Santa Rosa County has already passed one, and I had a group ask me and so I’m bringing it forth tonight and hopefully it’ll pass.”
That resolution supporting the “right to bear arms” did pass 4-1.
“My goal, and I believe our five commissioner’s goal will be to let the public, let the state, let the federal government- or whoever needs to know- that we don’t want them messing with our gun rights, our second amendment," Robertson said. "And if they start doing anything to restrict the ownership of guns, it’ll keep going further and futher.”
For Robertson, the issue goes back to a popular phrase, one we’re all familiar with: 'Guns don't kill people; people kill people.'
“We just want to pass a resolution stating, ‘Leave us alone with our gun rights. Let us protect ourselves.’ People who do bad things with guns are not going to honor any restrictions," Robertson said.
Robertson will be speaking on the issue at a pro-guns rally Saturday at 3 p.m. at Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza in downtown Pensacola.
