PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. - Lifeguards are going up to everyone and warning them about rip currents. Council Vaughan, Senior Lifeguard said, "This weekend we have extra staffing, staggered life guard shifts to provide longer coverage throughout the day, we also have lifeguards that are going to stay through fireworks show to protect people out on sound side."
Lifeguards say the water is dangerous because it doesn't look that bad, but they've already had several rescues.
Vaughan said, "Yesterday we made about eight saves, already one this morning, a few more through day, make lots of rescues tomorrow. "
While the water can be deadly, the heat is also very dangerous. Vaughan said, "Obviously heat major issue, everyone drink lots of water, bring lots of fresh cold water, snacks."
Lifeguards want everyone to have fun, but they want people to remember a fun holiday weekend can quickly turn tragic if they aren't careful. The Pensacola Beach fireworks show will be at 9:00 p.m. Saturday.
