Hard to place animals look for warm home

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Officials with the Hotel for Dogs and Cats Adoption Center in Pensacola are hoping a number of their animals can get a home for the holidays.

Vicki Spicer met her adopted dog Annie at the Hotel for Dogs and Cats. She came back to get her as a gift for her parents, who lost their dog years ago.

“They had asked me to bring my dog over because they wanted a little dog running around. So I figured to bring this dog over, so they can have their own,” said Spicer.

The non-profit organization takes in homeless, abused or neglected animals and houses them safely until they can find a home.

Annie’s story actually began here years ago when she was first adopted.

She was brought back last month when her family could no longer take care of her.

“It breaks my heart but it puts it back together knowing I’m taking her to a great home that’s gonna last forever," Spicer said, "She looks just like she wants to sit in someone’s lap and like she wants to be loved. She has that 'please love me face'. I was sold, and I know my grandmother will be."

Carey Fatheree’s dog Skippy had two doggy playmates before they recently passed away. Skippy got a new one when Fatheree adopted Penny, who had been at the Hotel for Dogs and Cats for more than five months.

“There’s a great joy in my heart that I haven’t felt for awhile. But it’s back again,” Fatheree said.

Penny and Annie are just a few adoption success stories for the center, which hoped to get many of their dogs and cats homes by Christmas.

But many of their animals are still looking for their own miracle.

“Adoption is great. These dogs need good homes and I’m very happy to be able to provide one,” said Spicer.

Officials said the organization is entirely run by donations. They said any donations including cleaning supplies are welcome.
