MOLINO, Fla. (WALA) - The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said a Molino man is behind bars for allegedly fighting with his own mother over $10 and a food stamp card.
On July 5, a home off McKinnonville Street played host to an incident of domestic violence. The sheriff's office has 47-year-old Alvin Wallace locked up for an alleged altercation with his own mother.
ECSO said the reason for the fight could be as bizarre as the case itself.
"On occasion stuff like this does happen over small amounts of money," said ECSO spokesman Matt Baxter. "From what we gathered the son owed the mother $10, and his only means of income were the food stamps. So prior to him getting the food stamp card, she demanded the $10."
According to the report, Wallace came at the 71-year-old aggressively after being asked for the money.
"During the argument she felt threatened by him so she armed herself with a knife and he walked past and rubbed himself on the knife and then called law enforcement," Baxter said.
But deputies found no cuts on Wallace, who they said came back into the home to spit on his mother.
And once he reached for the knife, she struck him over the head with a bottle repeatedly in an act of self defense.
"He was the primary aggressor, so he was later arrested for battery domestic violence on a person over 65," Baxter said.
The mother was not harmed and won't face charges for the fight.
Wallace's bond is set at $1,000. He'll appear before a judge at the end of the month.
