PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Officials say two people lost their home on Pelican Lane after it was destroyed by a fire early Saturday morning.
Escambia County officials say the fire began around 3:45 a.m., tearing through the home and left behind only charred remains.
The incident has stunned neighbors like Annette Johnston, who said she saw the scene from her home down the street.
She says the two homeowners, a man and a woman, managed to escape unharmed.
“I think we’re all a little startled and scared that something like this could happen to any of us. They’ve lost everything. The whole house is gone, there’s nothing left," said Johnston, "The car in the garage is burned. It’s really a tragedy. You hate to see this happen to someone as nice as they are."
The heat coming off the blaze was so intense it actually cracked every window on the side of their neighbors home.
Neighbors say the homeowners are in shock over the fire, but Johnston says they're not alone during this tough time.
“They have a well-knitted group of friends and family that will help them, but everybody here will do as much as they can,” Johnston said.
The State Fire Marshall is investigating the blaze.
