PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Many residents along Copter Street have been living there for years and said it's a usually quiet neighborhood.
However, it was anything but quiet around 2 a.m. Thursday, August 16. That's when authorities said someone knocked on 29-year-old Daniel Lukers' door.
Deputies said when Lukers opened the door, the suspect tried to force his way inside. They said Lukers fought back.
During the struggle, authorities said the suspect pulled a gun and started shooting, hitting the Lukers several times.
Deputies said when they arrived on scene, the shooter was gone.
Edward Thompson lives across the street from where the crime happened.
"I was surprised, really surprised. I don't know the man but I've waved at him and he seems like a really nice guy," said Thompson.
Thompson told FOX10 that he believes Lukers has children.
He said he can't believe something like this happened next door.
"It's scary, it sure is. I hope they catch whoever did it. That man has a family, so I sure hope they catch who did it," Thompson said.
Lukers was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening wounds. He has been released.
