Gonzalez trial will remain in Pensacola

PENSACOLA, Florida (WALA) - The trial of the accused triggerman in the Billings murder case will remain in Pensacola, at least for the time being.

Friday morning, a judge denied a request to move the murder trial of Leonard Gonzalez, Jr. Gonzalez’s attorney claims the extensive media coverage of Byrd and Melanie Billings murders will make it difficult to find an untainted jury pool.

Gonzalez is accused of being the mastermind behind the commando style raid at the Billings’ home in Beulah in July 2009. Investigators say he is also accused of being the triggerman.

Jury selection starts October 25.
