Pensacola gun show attendence in the hundreds

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Grady Lea retired from the Navy in the 80’s and has lived here in Pensacola ever since. He and hundreds of others came out to the Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds on Saturday for the gun show.

Vehicles filled several large parking lots and lines poured out the main door as folks came to browse and sell guns and even take concealed firearms classes.

“Over the last few years, I have never seen as many cars and as many people at a gun show as there is today,” said Lea.

Many said a big reason for the turnout is due to President Barack Obama’s executive orders regarding guns as well as the fear of an all-out ban.

Lea says he doesn’t believe all guns should be banned, but agrees in limitations and that firearms should be harder to purchase.

“I’m opposed to those automatic weapons that fire a lot of rounds. I have failed to see the need for that. But I still believe people should be able to own them and have them in their home,” Lea said.

Kip Carrier says instead of banning guns, more action should be taken to understand why people commit violent crimes.

“Cars don’t get drunk, people do. It’s the same with misuse of firearms. It’s a mindset and I don’t understand it. I’m actually glad I don’t understand why someone could act that way,” Carrier said.

John Ritenour says it's important to remember why the Second Amendment was designed.

“People need to remember it’s not something the founders thought was a good idea, they enshrined the Second Amendment right after freedom of religion and press. I think they realized just how important it was,” said Ritenour.

The Pensacola Gun Show continues on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
