PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - A fire at the Rag Tyme Grille in Pensacola is leaving some unemployed for a while. At least 20 people work at the restaurant.
The Pensacaola Fire Department says the fire started in the kitchen and was put out within 20 minutes.
The building has stood on Jefferson Street since the early 1900s. Then it was a shoe store.
Co-owner Buddy McCormick woke up to the call no business owner wants to hear.
"It’s kind of like part of your family when you have a building that old, and you spend all your time and effort getting it up to speed. It’s like one of your family members getting hurt.”
McCormick hopes to have the restaurant up and running within a couple of months. In the meantime, he says he will bring his current employees in to help with the recovery process.
A spark from an electrical panel started the fire. No one was inside at the time it started.
