NAS PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - More than 150,000 plus people turned out Saturday for the final day of the Blue Angels' Homecoming Air Show.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a first timer or a seasoned vet of their air shows, when the Blues soar above, you can’t help but be in awe.
“I’ve been to a show years ago when I was a kid and I wanted to come back. It’s just as exciting now as it was when I was a kid,” said event-goer Brad Jordan.
Getting the fans ready for the Blue Angels last performance of the season were events all day long, including plenty of other aircraft showing off their impressive aerial maneuvers. Friends Seth Pippin and Peyton Galich came to the airshow looking forward to the Blue Angel’s breathtaking stunt routine.
“It’s my first time being here but the jets are pretty fun and loud,” Galich said.
The event started up at 9:30 Saturday morning aboard the NAS Pensacola. The Blue Angels took to the sky Saturday at 2:30 p.m. for their last demonstration of the season.
But it wasn’t just civilians loving the airshow, Amanda Serfass and her friends are studying at NAS to be pilots.
“This is our future, so it’s really cool. It gives us a little aspiration for the future and the feeling that we’ll be out flying soon,” said Serfass.
But many folks say the most important thing to them is recognizing why the Blues fly.
“I really enjoy coming out to support the people who serve our country everyday. So it’s a great privilege to be here,” Galich said.
The Blue Angels will cap off their 2012 schedule with a change of command Sunday afternoon. Cmdr. Tom Frosch will relieve Capt. Greg McWherter as the Blue Angel's Commanding Officer.
