Man charged in abortion clinic fire pleads guilty

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) - A man has pleaded guilty to setting a blaze that gutted a Pensacola abortion clinic.

A trial for Bobby Joe Rogers was set to begin in August, but he changed his plea during a hearing in federal court in Pensacola on Thursday. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 4.

Rogers, a homeless man with a lengthy criminal record, is accused of setting fire to the American Family Planning Clinic in January.

The burned-out clinic was bulldozed earlier this month. The building was the site of previous anti-abortion violence, including a double-murder in 1994 when an anti-abortion activist killed a doctor and the doctor's security escort.
