PENSACOLA, Florida (WALA) - The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office released the names of the three people inside the Motel 6 room where a deadly shooting happened on Wednesday.

Deputies went to the motel on Highway 29 South looking for a missing person.  They believe the person was using a stolen card.

"We believe it was a debit card, also tied to some welfare fraud. So, our officers responded to this assistance call at the hotel," said Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan.

Investigators said when deputies knocked on the door, the suspect came out shooting.

During the shooting, Deputy Jason Ates was shot in the leg and 21-year-old Michael Scott Lee was killed.

The missing person wass 30-year-old Eric Sherbutt. Deputies said Sherbutt has nothing to do with the shooting investigation, but there could be a fraud investigation.

Stormie Felber, who is 18-years-old, was also inside the room.

Agents and investigators said an active meth lab was found inside the motel room where the shooting happened. They said Deputy Gandy and Deputy Ates did not know about the lab when they responded.
