Pensacola, Fla. - A military police officer accused of killing his pregnant girlfriend made a first appearance in court Tuesday. The victim's family filled every seat in the courtroom as his bond was set.

As more than a dozen family members walked into a courtroom Tuesday, they saw 25-year-old Samira Watkins' boyfriend for the first time through a video link.

"It was horrible," Watkin's mother, Valerie Joseph, said.

Zachary Littleton is accused of killing Watkins, then putting her body in a duffel bag and dropping it into Bayou Grande.

Police say Watkins was pregnant with Littleton's baby and he wanted her to have an abortion.

"We were shocked that anybody would do that to her, we didn't know him like that," Watkins' cousin, Jasmine Robinson, said.

Police say he had planned her death. They say they found searches on his computer wanting to know how to speed up human body decomposition. They also say he researched how to pass a polygraph test.

Littleton will be staying in jail on no bond, while the State attorney's office prepares the case for a grand jury.

"She was a very special girl, shouldn't have left this world like that," Robinson said.

Littleton is due back in court on December 17 for an arraignment.
