PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Operation Homefront partnered with volunteers and businesses in Pensacola to help military families prepare for this school year.
Friday’s event, Back to School Brigade, at the Corry Child Development Center in Pensacola distributed more than 200 backpacks to military children.
The nonprofit organization says it recognizes the high cost of equipping children to return to school and aims to provide relief for military families who face the additional challenges of repeat deployments, relocation and separation.
Operation Homefront says sponsors for the event included Verizon, Wells Fargo, Keiser University, and Dollar Tree.
According to its website, in 2011, the Back-to-School Brigade program raised over $2.5 million in monetary donations and school and provided 30,000 backpacks nationwide to fill with school supplies for children of military service member.
