PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Pensacola Police are investigating a shooting that occurred earlier Wednesday morning, January 22 in the 200 block of East Hernandez Street and sent a woman to a hospital for treatment of a leg wound.
Officers were conducting a traffic stop around 1 a.m. within a few blocks of the incident when they heard several gun shots. As they responded to the area, police dispatch received a call from the residence.
Another officer also arrived at the scene and contacted the 22-year-old female victim. She said she was bending over near her front door to get a bottle of water from a case of water by the door when she heard several shots fired outside. One of the bullets struck her in the leg.
The victim was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released.
A motive for the incident remains under investigation.
The Gun Crime Response Team was activated.
