PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Pensacola Police said they have identified a person of interest in a homicide that happened on Saturday, February 23.
Lieutenant Doug Baldwin said detectives are trying to locate 38-year-old Warren Hetherington. They said Hetherington is the victim’s former boyfriend.
Police said Alexia Baggett, 29, was shot to death around 11:30 p.m. Saturday outside a home on South L Street.
"It's just part of our investigation," said Lt. Baldwin. "We would like to speak with [Hetherington] about the events that occurred that night."
Baldwin would not say if it's currently believed that Hetherington was with Baggett at the time of the incident.
Baldwin said officers have been looking for Hetherington, who is not making himself readily available. FOX10 News found out that he was convicted on three counts of battery back in 1997, according to court records.
Police said Baggett was killed visiting Hetherington's parents at their L Street home.
Now, PPD said they need the public’s help.
"With all matters of this nature, we ask the public to notify police if they observe someone who we're looking for or a 'person of interest'. In this case, I just want to make sure that you to understand that this is a 'person of interest'. We have not yet classified him as a 'suspect," Baldwin said.
"We're going to investigate this incident. We're going to find out who the culprit is, and we're going to hopefully bring them to justice for this family," Baldwin added.
If you have any information on the crime, or know Hetherington's whereabouts, contact the Pensacola Police Department at (850) 435-1900.
