PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Officials say a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Pace Boulevard and West Fairfied Drive around 4:45 p.m. Thursday, August 23.
According to witnesses, the victim, identified as Joseph Miller, was crossing Pace Boulevard when an individual driving a red Lincoln Navigator was trying to make a right turn.
Witnesses say the driver, identified as Clark Houston, struck the victim with the front passenger side of vehicle.
Officials say, while on scene, Miller was breathing, but complaining of leg pain. He was rushed to first Baptist Hospital. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, his condition is listed as serious.
Houston spoke to FOX10 News. He says he was looking left before pulling onto Pace Boulevard and did not see Miller.
Florida Highway Patrol says Miller was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Houston is charged with driving with a suspended license.
Escambia County deputies and first responders were the first officials on scene. A nurse, who was in the area at the time of the accident, also stopped to help.
